A Roman Wall

Two walls with murals, a potter’s kiln and other finds uncovered during excavations at the Neue Residenz give you an idea of just how well furnished Roman houses were in Iuvavum–Salzburg barely 2000 years ago.

 

The History of Salzburg – A Quick Journey through Time

Afterwards you see four models of the city as well as objects, typical of specific historical periods, that illustrate the development of Salzburg from the time of the Romans to the early nineteenth century.

 

Salzburg Panorama

The Panorama Museum starts behind the turnstile. The highlight of the exhibition is a unique cyclorama 26 metres long and 5 metres high. It shows the city of Salzburg and the surroundings as seen from Hohensalzburg Castle. The cyclorama was painted by Johann Michael Sattler between 1825 and 1829. In addition, there are twenty-four detailed views, painted by his son Hubert, of places all over the world. An amazing journey through time!

The Panorama Passage can be visited free of charge up to the turnstile and is reached via the Salzburg Museum entrance hall.
