Wood carving has a long tradition in Hallein and neighbouring Bavaria. During the time of the Prince-Archbishopric, miners and brewery workers created carved objects as a source of additional income. The winter exhibition offered insights into the craftsmanship behind Krampus and Perchten masks. Alongside traditional motifs, it showcased the wide variety of contemporary interpretations. The special exhibition provided a unique look at the artistic and – intentionally – frightening wooden masks, without having to fear Krampus himself.
