The ground floor of the Museum of the Celts Hallein houses a separate exhibition dedicated to the prehistory of the province of Salzburg. Numerous finds come from the rich archaeological collection of Salzburg Museum. These include unique objects such as the Bronze Age helmet from Pass Lueg, the finds from the copper mines of the Mitterberg near Bischofshofen, or the Celtic gold torque from the Maschlalm near Rauris.

From the Mesolithic period to the late pre-Roman Iron Age, visitors can explore the early history of settlement in the Salzburg region – an area of great significance since the ninth millennium BC due to its central location and wealth of raw materials. The rooms are dedicated to themes such as power and powerlessness, humans – environment – settlement, this world and the beyond, and other related topics.
