The movie “The Sound of Music” (1965) is based on the true story of the von Trapp Family. This year it celebrates its sixtieth anniversary. For decades, the real von Trapp Family kept up close contacts with the “Salzburg Heimatwerk” (cultural organisation and commercial enterprise for promoting regional folk culture). This is recorded in historical documents, and the contact still exists between the family descendants and the institution. This connection, which also features the theme of Austrian national dress in general, can be seen as a preview of the new museum “Sound of Music Salzburg” to be opened in 2026.
