As the result of a research project lasting several years, the exhibition “New Images. New Epoch” provides insight into the history of early photography in Salzburg. The exhibition ranges over a timeline covering the beginnings of the new medium in the 1840s until its wide-ranging permeation of society, culture and everyday life in the 1870s. In doing so, the overall project also encompasses the time span that was enormously significant for the history of Salzburg: the redefinition of the prince-archiepiscopal residence city as urban space for middle-class culture.
