City of Dreams. Salzburg around 1920
Salzburg is a city like nowhere else. This has to do with its history and culture. Also with its architecture and the city’s overall setting. Salzburg is not only a powerful magnet for tourists today, but also before and during the 1920s, its magic appeal attracted many people to the city. Some of them moved from the big cities to settle in this small but picturesque city on the Salzach river. Others came as visitors and became faithful friends of the city.
Accelerated by the Salzburg Festival, tourism constantly increased, and Salzburg became an internationally famous brand. What impression did the city make on its visitors at the time, and what did people actually see when they looked down on Salzburg from the Gaisberg or Mönchsberg? What views and insights do the artistic documents of this time give us? What was new and upcoming? What was forgotten?
The exhibition gathers together picturesque views, visions drawn on paper and historical photographs to show an age in which much was on the move. Join us on a trip to the Salzburg of the 1920s!
