New insights into 2,000 years of Salzburg history
Salzburg Museum is delighted to become part of the DomQuartier family with the ‘IUVAVUM – Archaeology Museum Salzburg’. The ancient excavation site will be made accessible via the new visitor centre in the Alte Residenz and will once again be open to the public year round, for individual visitors as well.
Historic cellar rooms in the Alte Residenz are being adapted for museum use.
Time travel for young and old
Salzburg Museum will continue to relate the story of the ancient city with selected original finds from archaeological excavations in Salzburg. Where did the people who laid the foundations for today’s city come from? What was life like 2,000 years ago on the banks of the Salzach? What was on the menu? How did they build? How did they tell time?
Salzburg underground – The cathedral excavations
The Cathedral Excavations Museum is currently open to visitors as part of guided tours. Beneath Domplatz (Cathedral Square), Roman and medieval finds shed light on historical building work in the area of today’s cathedral.
