Museums in the most beautiful locations in Salzburg

In March 2021, the city and province of Salzburg made a landmark decision to realise the long-envisioned museum projects on The Sound of Music and UNESCO World Heritage as part of an integrated concept, with particular consideration given to the expansion of Salzburg Museum at the Neue Residenz site. In 2025, work began on the expansion of the Cathedral Excavations Museum, and the roof renovation and establishment of the ‘Kurt Zeller Forum’ in the Museum of the Celts Hallein.

New Openings

Kurt Zeller Forum | Museum of the Celts Hallein

The museum’s history began with its opening in 1970. Since then, the historic Pfleggebäude has undergone several architectural adaptations. The renovation of the roof and conversion of the attic have now brought this long history of transformation to a fitting conclusion.

Großzügiger Veranstaltungs- und Ausstellungsraum im Kurt Zeller Forum des Keltenmuseums Hallein. Ein historischer Dachstuhl mit massiven Holzbalken überspannt den offenen Raum mit weißen Wänden, dunklem Boden und mehreren Rundbogenfenstern.

Sound of Music Salzburg

The seasonal “Sound of Music Salzburg” museum has opened its doors in September 2026 in the immediate vicinity of the legendary “Sound of Music” gazebo at Hellbrunn Palace.

Orangery Salzburg Panorama | World Heritage

The Orangery in Mirabell Gardens is a unique exhibition venue, combining the richness of Salzburg’s UNESCO World Heritage Site with Johann Michael Sattler’s famous panorama of Salzburg.
