Roof renovation

The impressive building on the Salzach was built at the beginning of the sixteenth century and served as the headquarters of the Hallein saltworks. The highest official was the Pfleger (administrator), hence the name ‘die Pfleg’ or ‘Pfleggebäude’ (administration building) – today it is the Museum of the Celts Hallein, one of the most important museums of Celtic art and culture in Europe.

With the opening of the Kurt Zeller Forum, the Keltenmuseum Hallein introduces a new, flexible space for exhibitions, cultural learning, events and encounters. Located on the top floor of the historic “Pfleggebäude”, the project has brought the museum’s last major area of previously unusable space into permanent use. What was once an attic in need of renovation has been transformed into a high-quality museum space, significantly expanding the Keltenmuseum’s possibilities for the future.nnCovering approximately 550 square metres, the new space can accommodate changing temporary exhibitions, lectures, concerts, educational activities and events for up to 100 people. Areas of varying sizes can be adapted to suit different formats. The result is more than simply additional floor space: it is a distinctive venue for new ideas, collaborations and dialogue with visitors.
