Roof renovation
‘Die Pfleg’ – From saltworks building to museum
The impressive building on the Salzach was built at the beginning of the sixteenth century and served as the headquarters of the Hallein saltworks. The highest official was the Pfleger (administrator), hence the name ‘die Pfleg’ or ‘Pfleggebäude’ (administration building) – today it is the Museum of the Celts Hallein, one of the most important museums of Celtic art and culture in Europe.
Roof renovation
The folded roof structure is impressive due to its size and grandeur and is a testament to the historical carpentry of the first half of the eighteenth century.
The existing building was inspected in 2018, revealing an urgent need for action in several areas: structural stability, indoor climate on the exhibition levels below, historic preservation, and fire safety.
