In addition to the annual exhibitions focusing on cultural-historical themes, Ernestine Hutter, director of the Folklore Collection, launched the event series “Workshops: Reviving Old Techniques” in 1997. Her concept aimed to engage museum-interested audiences not only through guided tours but also through a wide-ranging program of lectures, excursions, and various events, thereby winning them over as advocates for the museum’s mission.

Together with Mag. Veronika Moser, workshops were launched to focus greater attention on the revival of traditional craft techniques. As part of the special exhibition “Shimmering and Spun in Gold,” the first monastery crafts workshops took place at the Salzburg Museum in 1998. Over the years, the program has been expanded in many ways. For example, to include embroidery and knitting, which were conducted for 10 years as part of the Volkskunde Museum’s event program at the initiative of Ms. Waltraud Krainer.

The 20th anniversary of this series of events will be celebrated in 2018 with an exhibition at the Volkskunde Museum in the Monatsschlössl. On display will be a selection of works created by participants in over 200 workshops over the past 20 years, showcasing great diversity and individual creativity.
