About the exhibition

While Johann Michael Sattler (1786–1847) left behind views of the city and province of Salzburg, his son Hubert Sattler brought back views from his global travels that he converted into large-format oil paintings. Not only did the cosmoramas offer a glimpse into Hubert Sattler’s many journeys through Europe, the Near East and North America, but so did the wonderful graphics he brought back from these travels. They showed picturesque views of places of worship from a wide variety of denominations, dating from ancient times to the 19th century.
