“WICKED WOOD!” is an exhibition designed to inspire both children and adults to appreciate the value and versatility of wood, while illustrating the journey from a growing tree to a finished toy. In the exhibition, wooden toys are not meant merely to be viewed—they are intended to be touched, experienced, and explored.

The exhibition presents historical wooden toys from a wide variety of periods and wood species, with a particular focus on the diversity of native woods and the unique properties of each type. To illustrate these themes, selected objects from the rich collection of the Toy Museum are on display. The range extends from simple nature toys and Froebel building sets to wooden toys from the Vienna Workshops (Wiener Werkstätte), as well as rocking horses, swan sleds, and musical instruments that use wood as a resonating body.

To accompany the special exhibition, a variety of workshops and programs centered on wood are offered. This time, hands-on activities take place not only in the Creativity Zone on the first floor but also in the so-called “Museum within the Museum”—an indoor wooden house located inside a 100-square-meter enclosed space.

Here, too,“WICKED WOOD!”  is the guiding theme, with activities ranging from woodworking and crafting with wood to binding one’s own book.
